It would probably be better for you to post a message in the Missing Persons Genforum at http://genforum.genealogy.com/missing/ , in the adoption Genforum at http://genforum.genealogy.com/adoption/ , and/or the Morris Genforum at http://genforum.genealogy.com/morris/ if you want to find living family members. Most of the queries in this Genforum have to do with people who lived in DeKalb County a long time ago, as in genealogy. Actually it is easier to find out information about them than living people. Privacy laws apply to most records concerning anyone born within about the last hundred years, and they are not available to the public.
When you do post a message, give more information too. Besides your mother's name and date of birth, tell what states she's lived in, where she might be living now, if she may be married, maybe what sort of job she might have, etc. The more information you give, the easier it would be for someone to help you.
Searching for a living person is really rather difficult, especially if the name is common (I have done it). Have you tried putting in your mother's name in a phonebook search? There's one at http://www.anywho.com/wp.html that's easy to use, only you must search state by state. If your mother has a phone listing under the name you know, eventually you'll hit it.
I hope you find your mother and family members. It could be that the old-fashioned ways--calling around to old friends or relatives--may work too.
