There's a long story there, Wayne, and I don't know where you came in. The first publisher went broke and the money they had been paid for books was lost as well. They sent Sue the original articles they had, and Sue still had many, but she had typed and formatted many, many articles and sent them to the publisher, but for some reason, she did not save these to her hard drive or a disc and all that work was lost. She still had the originals, but a lot of what she was sent was far from being ready for publication. Some people just sent Family Group sheets. Sue and a few more people worked on this for a while, but she kept finding more things she wanted to include.
Sue had worked long and hard on this, but only she really knew where things were. After her death, the historical society really didn't know what was what. Her family are really nice people, but they didn't share Sue's passion.
My mother got involved and after several phone calls, Sue's husband brought some things to the library. Frankly, we don't know how much of it we got. My mother knows that many pictures were lost. My mother and another lady have worked on editing and formatting what they got and you can check at http://dadecountyhb.wordpress.com/ and see if your article is there. We have someone who is going to provide financial backing that we hope will enable us to finally publish. We have re-published the old Dade history book.
Most of the book is with the publisher, who is local. My mother just reviewed a large portion of the book and got the proofs back to the publisher. I think the end is in sight, but I can't give you a date. Check back with me this summer to see if the book is ready and I'll try to get you a copy.
We don't even have a complete list of who paid for books all those years ago. I paid for at least two, but I don't even have a record any more.
