My Edwards family came to Marion county Kentucky in the late 1700's from the area around St Mary's county Maryland. The Dent family were neighbors of the Edwards family for generations there, and both families intermarried. I have all kinds of Dents in my ancestral history...I'll bet 'Mr Dent' came from Maryland! Don't know how helpful this is, but thought I'd contribute...
