A little story about the different birth years given for Henry Crawford Tucker, as told by Blanche Pitts Smith, his great-great-granddaughter, told to her by her own grandmother, Nancy Isabel Tucker Horne:

“The census taker came to the Tucker home in 1870 and when he asked for the year Henry Crawford was born, HCT said, ‘1805.’ His wife, Rebecca, gasped but said nothing until the census taker had left. Then she said to her husband, ‘You know you were born in 1793! You’re a preacher and you’re not supposed to tell a story like that!’ He smiled and said, ‘I know it, but what would they think, an old man like that married to a pretty young girl like you?’
“This was witnessed by my grandmother, Nancy Isabel Tucker, who was a little girl at the time. She told this to me when I was a young girl.”
