I live in and have relatives living in Cobb County, GA in 1850. They neither appear on the Federal Census of Cobb County, nor on the Slave Schedules of 1850... I have, however, found them in the Cobb County Tax Records of 1848, 1849 and 1851, which represents the ONLY surviving ante-bellum County Records other than the Federal and State Census records.
For whatever reason, the census enumerators were either careless or lazy when it came right down to it.... If you're having trouble finding your family, you might try these microfilms... The GA Dept. of Archives has a copy along with the main branch of the Cobb County Public Library in the GA Room...
Good Luck!
Ben Bishop,
Marietta, GA
