Walker Researchers:
I'm sure many of you are like me with a Walker lineage that just goes back so far and dead-ends. My gggg-grandfather John Walker was b ca 1730 VA, m 1751 Elizabeth Hunter in Albemarle Co., VA. They relocated to Guilford Co. NC ca 1765 and then to Washington/Greene Co. GA before 1789. Much evidence points to David Walker d Goochland Co. VA 1774 as his father but there is no documentation to prove this. Many of John Walker's descendants lived in CLAYTON CO. GA including my father who was born there.
Now, a few of us Walker researchers are turning to a DNA study to help sort some of these Walkers out. Jack Walker (jack-walk@home.com), Suzanne Hallstrom (fabercove@aol.com) and myself Barbara Good (BWGood@aol.com) are co-ordinating a Walker DNA Project to compare and analyze the y-chromsomes of male Walker descendants with an unbroken male line from their oldest known Walker ancestor. (If you are a female, you could use your brother, uncle, first cousin, second cousin, etc to be tested for you.). If the y-chromosomes of two tested individuals match that would indicate that they both descend from a common male ancestor. Y-chromosomes are passed down thru an unbroken male lineage (father to son to son, etc.)
We invite other Walkers to participate. The larger base of Walkers that we have, the more likely that we will find matching families.
