Dear Mary, I don't know about Josiah Hopgood. I do know a bit about the Lowery,s, Lowrey's and Lowry's in Alabama in the 1820's and 1830's. I'm wondering whom you were named after. My g- grandmother was Mary A. Perkins, Her parents were Austin Gore Lowery and Mary E. Perkins from AL. My grandfather , Wm. A. Lowey, stated on his marriage licence, that his parents were Benjamin Lowey and Mary Perkins. I'm a double Lowery starting with my g-grandparents. Mary was part Cherokee, So she used her mother,s maiden name. Our family name was Lowery, changed to Lowey in the 1800's. My grandfather was Wm. A. Lowey, born 1878 in Boston, but MA has no records on him. I have his marriage certificate to Mary Retzlaff born 1888. Her parents came from Germany. My father was Clarence Wm. Lowey, born 1906 in Milwaukee, WI. I can't find the right Benjamin Lowery/Lowey. Thank you if you can help me. I hope that we are cousins. Marilyn Elsie Lowey Nelson b. July 23, 1936 in Chicago. My husband is Kenneth W. Nelson, we have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. P.S. Mary A. Perkins was born 1861 in AL.
