1. JOHN R.1 THOMAS was born November 04, 1829, and died May 16, 1863 in Forsyth County, Georgia (at home on furlough from the Civil War). He married ELIZABETH ??? December 28, 1851. She was born Bet. 1833 - 1834, and died in Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia.
Notes for JOHN R. THOMAS:
Georgia Department of Archives and History holds records indicating that John R. enlisted in Pool's company and served for six months and also indicates that he was in Colonel Glen's Regiment.
More About JOHN R. THOMAS:
Burial: Friendship, about halfway between Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia and the Cherokee County, Georgia line.
Military service: enlisted as a private on January 15, 1862 and was mustered into "A" Company, 36th Georgia Infantry of the Confederate Army. He died on May 16, 1863 of disease (chronic diarrhea and spinal infection) contracted on the march through Kentucky in 1862.
Residence: Cheokee County, Georgia; Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia

Elizabeth received a Widows' Pension ($100.00) because of John R.'s military service. The Georgia Department of Archives and History holds records for the years 1891, 1894, 1895, 1896, 1897, 1898, and 1899 in Forsyth County, Georgia, and for the year 1893 in Cherokee County, Georgia. The witnesses for ELIZABETH's Widows' Pension claim were: R. F. Tinsley (neighbor), J. A. Bramblett (neighbor and in the same regiment with John), J. R. Echols (close neighbor), S. A. Halbrook (close neighbor), H. L. Hawkins (Ordinary). J. A. Bramblett wrote that the last time he saw John was at Lenoir's Station, Tennessee.
