Actually, you may want to check on cemeteries of Muscogee County. In the 70's Columbus and Muscogee became a Consolidated Govt.and is almost totally inclusive.
Depending upon if he was White or Black. Whites were buried at Riverdale which is now under the City of Columbus, GA.but you can call the sextons office and they can do a search for you. There is also Parkhill which is privately owned by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary now.
Blacks were buried at Porterdale and East Porterdale, I think these are under the City of Columbus as well. Green Acres is a privately owned . There is one on St. Mary's Road but I don't know how it is segregated or owned. I am sure there are some other small cemeteries but I'd check the largest ones first.
Do you have a death certificate on any of these people? If so, the funeral home is listed and I have found them to be extremely helpful. The DC will also have the disposition of the body on it i.e. buried-cremated-donated So it will tell you where it is buried. It should also have the informant on it and will sometimes give you another family member.
Death certs are not like Birth certs. just about anyone can order a DC. It can be a certified or just a copy. If you know the county where they died just send to the Vital records office, usually at the local county health dept. Muscogee County Health Dept.

(Cuss-eee-ta).
