“The good Democrats of Chattahoochee are rejoicing over the return to the Democratic fold of a very prominent and popular citizen, Mr. Hardy ROYALLS. It is stated that Mr. ROYALLS had been induced to give his influence to the Third party in the conviction that the best interests of the people could be secured through that medium. When he became satisfied of his erroneous impression, and that only through the Democratic party could the South hope to obtain relief and protection, he announced his intention of standing by the grand old party. A gentleman from Cusseta informs the Enquirer-Sun that the Democratic neighbors of Mr. ROYALLS, who hold him in the highest esteem, are delighted at the knowledge that he will be with them shoulder to shoulder in the next campaign. He has always been an earnest and zealous Democrat.”

[Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, 07 SEP 1892, p. 2.]

This is apparently Hardy RYALS (ca. 1829 Lauren Co, GA – aft. 1880), son of Travis & Sarah (JACKSON) ROYAL, who m. 07 APR 1856 in Chattahoochee Co, GA, to Ellenia Victoria C. “Evie” SCOGGIN. He appears on a tax roll for Georgia Militia District #678 in Chattahoochee Co. in 1857, and was enumerated on the 1860 census of GMD #1153 of that county. He is named on an 1864 roster of the Chandler Lodge #155 (Masons), and in June 1864 enlisted as a Private (over age) in Company B, 6th Regiment, Georgia Militia, Phillip's Brigade, Georgia State Troops – evidently a Home Guard unit. He also appears on the 1870 and 1880 censuses of Chattahoochee Co., residing in the Big Sandy District. He worked as a miller. I have not yet located death or burial information for him or his wife – they are the parents of at least seven children.
