You can get certified copies of birth certificates from the Chatham County Health Department on Eisenhower Drive in Savannah at 912-356-2441. Marriage and other records can be found at the Chatham County Courthouse in Savannah at 133 Montgomery Street. Try this general info number: 912-652-7175. You can also get a wide range of information from area public libraries. The main public library, which used to house the geneaology materials for the area, is currently under renovation. I believe all these materials are now available at the Thunderbolt branch library. If you're not a local, Thunderbolt is a small town adjoining Savannah on the east side. Also, check with the Georgia Historical Society in Savannah for old church and other records. They're located at 501 Whitaker Street, phone number 912-651-2128. Good luck.
