A family ledger has been discovered from the Berne Plantation owed by the Holzendorf's. The ledger is now in private hands but the owner is willingly to share the information provided that the information will NOT be sold or used on pay sites. The owner believes that history belongs to all of us and should NOT be sold. The ledger begins in 1855 and ends in the 1880's. The Berne Plantation located in Camden County had 22 slaves and the names and their birthdates are listed as well as death dates. Although the ledger begins in 1855 prior dates are listed including information about the owner Alexander Holzendorf. The ledger is currently being transcribed. The ledger promises to be a treasure trove of infomation especially for black history during this era of American History.
