Thank you for your reply reguarding Nathan Byars who married Milly Turner. For 30 years I have tried to find proof that my Nathan Byars b 1785/1795, died in Lawrence Co. AL. was the son of Nathan Byars Jr and the grandson of Nathan Byars and his first wife Drucilla Harrelson.

Through the years I have seen as many as 14 children listed as the children of Nathan Byars b. ca 1749 md 1st Drucilla Harrelson and 2nd Delphy Logan. Recently I have come to believe that the Nathan Byars that married Milly Turner was not the son of Nathan and Drucilla. Drucilla got a legal seperation from Old Nathan in 1808. She stated that she had 10 children by him and that their trouble started in 1801 when he would put her out of the house.

In 1830 (if my memory serves me) there were three Nathan Byars in Spartanburg Dist. SC. Old Nathan, Nathan Jr. and the Nathan that married Milly Turner. As far as I can tell no one has ever found a document that names the 10 children born to Old Nathan and Drucilla. Old Nathan did have some children by Delphy Logan prior to their marriage in 1819. One was named Jackson and proof of him is in the pension applications.

At one time DAR accepted applications on Drucilla Byars, who the application claimed she was the daughter of Old Nathan and Drucilla Harrelson and married Abner Womack. It has been proven that Drucilla the daughter of Old Nathan and his first wife, did not marry Abner Womack. Martha, daughter of Old Nathan and Drucilla, did marry Abner Womack and had 22 children by him. 16 of those children lived to adulthood. Bible records and the obit. of the last child of Abner Womack and Martha Byars said he was the last of 16 children all born to the same mother and father. DAR no longer accepts appications on that line.

Several have gone into DAR on John Byars who married Mary Ann "Passie" Logan. However that is a very shakey line and may be closed. There is no documentation that this John was a son of Old Nathan and Drucilla. So, until someone, somewhere finds documentation for the children of Old Nathan Byars and Drucilla Harrelson, they do not have a proven lineage.

Will Franke made an affidavit that John Byars was the son of Old Nathan and Drucilla. But he shows no documentation other than the statements of supposedly great grand children.

I believe that the Nathan Byars that went to Butts Co. GA was the son of the William Byars that lived in Butts Co. and sold land to Nathan while he was still in Spartanburg. Hopefully by working together we will be able to prove some of the children, other than Martha, born to Old Nathan and Drucilla. More input would be appreciated.cbh
