The A & R railroad was charted in 1838, began in Savannah, and forked, I believe in Millen (could have been waynesboro, but I did get this from a web site on the history of railroads in Georgia) with one line going to Augusta, the other to Atlanta. I am interested in someone who was probably a laborer and born in Ireland. In the 1850 census, there are numerous Irish families living in Waynesboro, likely engaged in building the RR. Unfortunately, my ancestor died just before the census.
