Since Jefferson County was formed from part of Burke, this couple may never have moved.

Your submitter has a copy of a DAR Application File for John CLEMENTS, Natl.File No. 107186 dated March 1914 stating John was born 1763. This file states that he served as a private soldier and died in 1807 in Houston County, Ga. Note: Houston County had not been created in 1807. It was still Indian Territory. The file does not state where he was born, but does state that Mary Irwin, his wife was born in Mecklenburg, N.C. and probably died in Burke Co. The DAR records show, and he was a refugee to N.C. but also states he was born in N.C.(contradictory). The paper was filed by a descendant of daughter Mary who married John Chambers in Jefferson County in 1812. This marriage was announced in a publication in Jefferson County and stated she was the daughter of Col. John Clements (late) and wife Mary Irwin. I am seeking knowledge of other children of this couple. Virginia Clements Tuttle Email: Gintut@aol.com
