Didn't really find anything definitive but did find an interesting reference in the 1820 Burke County census.

On page 38, Lewis Whitfield is listed with the following household ..

1 male aged 10 to under 16
1 male aged 16 to under 26
1 male aged 45 years or older
1 female aged 10 to under 16
1 female aged 16 to under 26
22 male slaves and 18 female slaves

Want to guess who his neighbor was? Fielding Fryer is listed with the following household ..

1 male aged under 10
1 male aged 10 to under 16
1 male aged 45 years or older
2 females aged under 10
2 females aged 10 to under 16
6 male slaves and 4 female slaves

Hope this helps. There are more Whitfield, Fryer and Hill references listed in "The Families of Burke County, 1755-1855, A Census" compiled by Robert Davis and Silas Lucas. Great book for Burke County research.

David
