William & Mary Colley (Cauley) moved to Baker County in the 1830's from Wilkinson County. Wilkinson County Historical Collections discusses his adventures with the militia and his involvement in civic affairs. Some researchers report that William was born in Dobbs County NC, but I have seen no documentation. Dobbs became Lenoir County, and it is very likely that William is the son of Roderick Roger Cauley of Lenoir County, and his first wife Mary Dove.
William B. Cauley witnesses a deed for John Freeman in October of 1822, in Bibb County GA. That is a few months after his daughter Elizabeth Jane Cauley married John Freeman.
William B. Cauley's daughter Lishia married John L Bailey of Wilkinson County. With his father William and many brothers, John L. Bailey moved to Baker County and established a very prosperous plantation. Lishia Cauley's parents followed them, and in 1850 the Cauleys (Colleys) live adjacent to their daughter Lishia.
