Futterers from Pforzheim to PA to NY

Does anyone know the origin of the name Futterer? I read somewhere that it means "feeder of cattle." My husband's Futterer ancestors came from Baden, specifically Pforzheim (or Forcheim as it is known today). If you look in that city's phone book today, you will find many, many Futterers.
