Furtick family of SC

I am researching the Furtick family of Lexington and Orangeburg Counties in South Carolina. The surname is spelled many different ways in SC legal documents of the mid 1700's through mid 1800's. Fertig, Ferdict, Furtick, Fertick, Furtic, Firtick, Fertic, to name a few.

I believe the first generation in SC was John Fertig who petitioned for "1000 and bounty for himself" on August 2, 1757. Others with various spellings of this surname in SC may very well be descendants of his.

I think his son may have been George Furtick who married Mary Magdalene Zachael and were the parents and grandparents of the Furtick families listed in census records in Lexington and Orangeburg Counties from 1830 on.

I would love to hear from others researching this family and will be happy to share info.

Helen
