Just to update the search, another 'cousin' discovered my cluster of Furry Family in the 1880 census. Some of them are gone, but Eliza is there, with her sons Nelson, Ira and Hiram, daughter Susan and with an 18 year old Frank in residence.(Census film#1254237 page 327D)

Of special interest to me is:
1)The location.. no longer in Carlinville, they are in Lichfield, Montgomery County, Illinois.
2)The fact that Ira is listed... Independant records in British Columbia indicate he was living there in 1878, listed as a lumberman and eligible to vote, on Howe Sound. He had married in BC and by this time, already widowed. His wife Lucy and child Louisa Jane are buried in a family plot at the Fraser Cemetery in New Westminster. The dates listed are March 1879 for Lucy and March 1878 for Louisa Jane.
3)My second cousin, Alice Stratford Smith, has recently related a 'family story' to me, indicating that our gg grandmother did not consider Frank her brother, but rather a cousin.
