I am of the family, my dad's family is from fitchburg. my grandfather's name was thomas furlong, his father was edward (Ned). Also Kieran Furlong was in Fitchburg, I have copies of entries and a document from fitchburg, showing a land sale to Kieran and Annie Furlong in August 1893. There are a lot of the family buried in St. Bernard's Catholic Church Cemetary in Fitchburg. Kieran and Edward are there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
