Alexander W.: b. Sept 18, 1842 in Portland, ME.

I got all of this from the LDS lists. I also downloaded a very large file from Adam Rollins at ancestry.com that takes Thomas W. Furlong's wife's (Elizabeth "Betsey" Jordan) ancestry back- in some branches as far as the 1400's! However, he has no documentation since he obtained it over the internet. It shows a connection with the Patch family, which I had speculated on. He says he plans to begin the documentation process soon, and will share with me. If you would like to, you could check it out at ancestry.com.

My guess about the Nova Scotia Furlongs is that they are related, but probably further back than William and Benjamin's generation. I strongly suspect that Thomas W.'s father, Patrick, had siblings. As I said in my first message, I think Lawrence and Anthony Furlong of Essex Co., MA, NABC could well be Patrick's brothers. Judging by the size of the Furlong families, there were probably others. At least one brother may have settled in Nova Scotia - or a brother of Thomas W.'s. I think that would actually make Reuel A. Furlong a cousin of some degree to Reuel W. Furlong, but he may have referred to the Capt. as 'uncle' out of respect due to his being older. I grew up calling my mother's first cousin "Aunt Joan" for that same reason.

By the way, I descend from Benjamin's son, Edward P. Furlong (my 2X great-grandfather), so I have more info on him -even a dated photo (1864, age 36). I have a photo of what I'm 99% sure is Thomas W. and Elizabeth Furlong from around 1855, also.

I would be happy to exchange whatever I have that may be of interest to you. I would be very interested in knowing more about Reuel W., since he is the first ancestor I can connect to the Civil war. By the way, I also have a couple of other things I'd be willing to mail you if you email me directly at cjdavis@nni.com

Thanks again!
