Hi Lauren
My name is David Andrew Funston and i was born in West Lothian,Scotland in 1962(october 3rd). My father was Robert Samuel Funston born in Carntressie Co Donegal (Nov 1920). We are the only known Funston family on the Scottish mainland now, however there is a large contingent of family members and distant relatives who still reside in all of the six counties of Northern Ireland and some who still reside in the Donegal area. I believe that the family name did originate in Ireland although there are small pockets of family dispersed throughout England,Canada,South Africa and the United States. I tried about three years ago, while spending a holiday in Dublin to look up some archives in the national registration offices but because our family was presbyterian all the records of protestants in Southern Ireland were seemingly destroyed about the times of the easter uprisings,(circa 1916). Information is available i was told in the archives of registry house in Belfast, Northern Ireland......Hope this has been of some help to you. Keep in touch, as i am always trying to gain more information about our family history. Kind regards.David.
