A History of Summers Community Arkansas I don't know if it's the same Henry Funkhouser but there was a Henry Funkhouser, who had a store early 1900's in Summers Community Arkansas. The first store was owned and operated by Dr. Jacob Funkhouser in 1830: the second store was owned by John F. Summers in 1881. Ben Worthham, a blacksmith shop in 1881 which he operated until June, 1882, when he was appointed Postmaster of the new Post Office called Summers. After a few months Mr. Henderson Elms was appointed Postmaster in October 1882 and served until the office was discontinued in April, 1883. In April 1884, the Post Office was re-established with John F. Summers as Postmaster. After the construction of the railroad, there were three general stores. Strickland and Wood's Drug Store, Strickland's Photography, Wm Elms Barber Shop, and in 1904, a hotel was built, by Dee Little, a few years later destroyed by fire and never rebuilt. Several physicians have practiced in Summers at one time or another. In the early ninteen hundreds, there were Dr. Wilks , Dr. Plumlee, Dr. Barnes, Dr. Thurman and Dr. Thomason Later enterprises in Summers, included Henry Funkhouser's general store. donnastreeks@msn.com
