HISTORIC CEMETERY WHERE 19 FULTZ BURIED
We find 19 FULTZ's listed as buried in Mount Morris/Point Pleasant/Maken cemetery, in upper Tenmile District of Harrison County on land once owned by the LYNCH's south of U.S. #50, west of Jarvisville Road, near "Twin Houses".
Included is a Jacob G d. 1853 said at age 85 and a Catherine d. 2/4/1857,also supposedly age 85, along with son Jacob F., d.3/19/1883 & his wife Maria Brohard, d. 11/26/1880. plus 15 others.
We have our great grandparents Samuel & Sarah Elizabeth (Wood) BOGGESS and her parents, our great-great grandparents, Cassandra Brown and John WOOD, with at least three of their other children buried.
We discovered 19 Apr 2003 state the cemetery had fallen too, when a friend visited the site for pictures of monuments. The cemetery is still owned by Methodist Church, but the Maken Methodist Church was abandoned in 1964, furnishings etc going to Heaston Church, thus the cemetery has been unkept, the fence knocked down by roaming cattle and horses which have all but destroyed the place, coupled with the overgrowth of trees and such. A visit this year shows it just getting worse.
Thus far about four of the 45 known familes are interested in gaining control, thus maintaining the cemetery, via a not-for-profit corporation, which of course will cost those interested money and will prevent further destruction. Each family then can restore/replace markers as they wish.
Our BOGGESS monument erected ca 1920, a slightly smaller duplicate of 8' one in Carthage, MO, was toppled and broken, we now find, done so before 1998 when the neighboors, in the Twin Houses and their children attempted to clean up and care for the cemetery.
Are you and/or your family interested in this historic cemetery and the 19 FULTZ's buried therein, created in upper Tenmile District,1837 when the "pike" was built from Winchester to Parkersburg, with B & O Railroad coming along 20 years later??
If so please advise, and any others that might read this message, if interested.
