I have some information for my gg-grandfather Fred Follmer:

Frederick Vollmer age 18 arrived on the vessel John Hancock at the port of New Orleans during the fourth quarter 1854. Ship sailed from La Havre (List of Passengers arrived from Foreign Ports in the Port of New Orleans during the fourth quarter 1854).

Frederick Follmer was born in Baden, Germany, 15 Nov 1836. He landed in New Orleans 25 Dec 1853, and then went to Ohio and worked on a farm for one year for $100; he then got $15 per month, and worked for that salary for six years. He was married 1 Feb 1859, to Miss Juia A. Deem, who was born 18 Oct 1837, in Butler County, Ohio; she is the daughter of John and Elizabeth Deem, who are of German descent, and her father was in the War of 1812. Two years after Mr. Follmer was married he moved to Henry County, Illinois, farmed four years, and then moved to Sheridan township, Jasper County, Missouri, and located on his present farm in 1867. He is one of the old settlers and built the second house in the township. At the time he landed he had $300 in money and a team, wagon, and harness. He now has 120 acres of land all under cultivation, good improvements, good buildings, and it is worth not less than $7,000. He has seven children: Lizzie, Mollie, Clara, Charles, Freddie, and Frank. (History of Jasper County, Missouri, 1883, p. 963).
