Thank you John, this information has been a tremendous help.

I do believe though, that the Joel listed as a child of Letty and Francis in the 1850 census of Smith County, TN. was actually Letty's nephew and was the Joel B Fulks Jr. that married their daughter, Nancy October 10, 1850. Following is an excerpt from the message you posted to J.D. and I believe this is the same Joel that was listed with Francis and Letty in the 1850 census. Your following post was also very helpful to me.

"I do not know all the people you have listed on page 2 of your e-mail you sent me on January 15, 2001. Joel B Fulks Sr had a son, Joel B Fulks Jr. He was born in Smith County, TN about 1830. He married his cousin, Nancy G Sampson, October 10, 1850. She died in the 1850’s probably in child birth in 1856. Joel B Jr and his son, Archibald born in 1856, were living in the household of his widowed mother, Martha Fulks, when the 1860 Smith County, TN census was taken. Joel B Jr and son, Archibald, may have moved to Ark or TX. They were not found in the census after 1860."

Thanks again John,
Elsie
