Thank you Janice. I suspected that there were rent records for the Manor of Leeds, but have no access to them. George Fugate leased 198 acres within William Smoot's plot in1786 and I assume he was then 21. The lease was recorded in 1792, indicating he was still there then. We do know he went to Kentucky in the 1790's with Vincent Fugate and Stephen Ashby and probably a large family/neighborhood group. They went first to Bourbon County and then on to Christian/Hopkins county.
Anyway, I thought that if there were other records for Fugates in the same local, that that would at least give a clue to George's father.
Your information indicates that Martin, Josiah, John, Randolph, all were in that area at the time of George's birth, about 1765.I thought that Benjamin and Hannah were George's parents at first, because of the naming of George and Martha's children and grandchildren, but there are major problems with this parentage. Benjamin would have been the right age, but Hannah would have been very young. So I'm taking another look at all of the possibles.
Yes I would like to know about John and Randolph's information in Leeds also.In what form are the original rental records for the Manor of Leeds?
Thomas Ashby/Mary Ann McCullough are also my ancestors through George's son Lewis, who married Nancy Ashby.
Again thanks Janice,
