John Hammon Fugate's line - 1805, Virginia
I'm the ggg-granddaughter of John Hammon Fugate (b. 1805 in Virginia) and would like to know who his parents were and how my Fugate line is tied in with the rest of the Fugates in the country. I know his son James Monroe Fugate was born in 1832 in Indiana, and died in California -- where the rest of my Fugate family were all born and raised. (My mother's maiden name was Fugate.) James Monroe Fugate's son Jesse B. -- my great grandfather -- was born in 1873 in Moberly, Missouri, and I'm not sure if the family was settled there for a while or just passing through on their way out to California -- but once in California, they put down roots in the San Joaquin Valley.
James Monroe Fugate made things a bit difficult for our family by telling a census reporter (and family members!!) that he was born in France - rather than Indiana (at least I think that's what I remember being told years ago.) He must have been quite the comedian.
I realize this part of the Fugate line has probably been covered on this forum so I do apologize for any repeat info., but I can't find the connection to John. Any information you'd like to share with me about John Hammon Fugate's line, I would appreciate. Thanks so much in advance.
