The name of the program I upgraded to is Family Tree Maker Deluxe 2006. Note the change from the word Creator to Maker. There are a lot of other versions of Family Tree Maker, but he specifically told me to get Family Tree Maker Deluxe 2006, so I did just that and it works great.

I got it directly from Broderbund - Riverdeep(they bought out Mindscape). I had written them an email asking them about which newer one I could use with a .cgf file and they sent me a response which also included a special price offer of $64.95 instead of $69.95 because I was upgrading from an older version. This also included free shipping. There wasn't a coupon code or anything. You just had to call their toll free number and tell them you had a special upgrade offer at the lower price with free shipping. Here is their number 1-800-395-0277. Here is a link to their website:

But to get the special price you have to call the toll-free number and say you got an email from Mark J. I could forward you a copy of my email if you have any trouble. The phone operator did try to sell me a bunch of other stuff and tried to get me to pay the extra $4 for upgraded faster shipping. But I just politely said no thanks!

I have also seen this same exact software for sale at many other places -- online, ebay, and also local computer stores like Fry's and Best Buy. Also, Ancestry.com sells it.

The nice thing about this software too is that it comes with a free one year subscription to Ancestry.com which is amazingly helpful in tracing family tree information - I have found so, so many census records for my ancestors and also Social Security Death records, and even lots of military records back to the Civil War. Ancestry.com is expensive so this pays for itself if you ever wanted to try it out. I already have Ancestry.com until April, so I am going to try and hold off on registering online so I can see if I can get more time added on. I do not have a paid membership in this website, Genealogy.com, so I couldn't say which one is better.

I hope that answers your questions, but feel free to contact me again if anything comes up.

Beth
