I've answered my own question! I did finally hear from Broderbund. The guy recommended that I purchase Family Tree Maker 2006 Deluxe and stated it would be able to open my .cgf file from my old old program Family Tree Creator Deluxe. so, I did purchase it and it did open my .cgf file without having to turn it into a GEDCOM file. It took me a minute to be able to figure out how to do it. You have to click on the file menu, then click OPEN which is near the top of the list. Then when the dialog box opens up, get yourself to the directory where your old cgf file is stored. Then you go down to the bottom of the screen where it says FILES OF TYPE and click on the little triangle thingy which points down. Then scroll down to the very bottom of the list to the one titled FAMILY TREE MAKER ALL TYPES. It did not bring all of my photos I had stored with it, which is a big bummer. I do have to put them all back in and you have to do it one at a time from what I can tell so far. But, all the data did come, in the right order, and the new program is pretty easy to use. So, I would recommend it for anyone who is using the old Family Tree Creator to upgrade right away. Broderbund gave me a discount of $64.95 and free shipping. I have seen it cheaper on the internet, but wanted to get it directly from them in case it didn't work I would have their support. It also comes with a free year of membership to Ancestry.com which is great.
