"The English family name of Fry is derived from the Anglo-Saxon word,"Freo," meaning free.Tn Anglo-Saxon England the people were divided into three classes:the nobels,the freeman,and the thralls.The Saxon freeman later became known by the name of Fry.Some writers confine the name to the South of England,occurring chiefly in Wiltshire.
