My grandmother was Sallie Evelyn Monds and my great grandmother is Nancy Elizabeth Fryar. I attended my grandmother's funeral in the mid 1960s when I was about nine or ten years old. I remember being there in Fryar's Cemetary for her burial. My grandfather Emmitt Carden is also buried there, I went to his funeral and burial at Fryar's cemetary in 1973. That was the last time that I have been there. My father, James Elmer Carden, never talked much about his grandmother; I suppose that she had passed before he was born in 1927. I did not realize until just last week what my grandmother's maiden name was. I thoughts it was Muns but now I realize it is Monds and that the reason she and my grandfather are in Fryar's cemetary is because they are part of the Fryar family tree. I have always wondered until now why they were buried way back in woods near the foot of Lookout Mountain. I remember going down a long gravel road to get there and that there was nothing else back there.
