Daniel Fry, Logan VA

I found D H Fry in the 1860 census, married to Nancy Fry. In other entries, he is Daniel Fry. In that census, there are 3 small children with different last names. I am interested in 2 year old George Marshall.
Logan, Virginia is in Spotsylvania County, not far from Lake Anna. George ended up in Albemarle County, I believe, as a teenager. I want to know about this Fry family and why they have 3 children with other names. Nancy isn't old enough to be a grandmother to a 4 or 6 year old, maybe a two year old. Are they cousins or niece and nephews? If anyone knows of Fry adoptions, let me know.
Also, found a Butler Fry in another county a little younger than George Marshall in 1870 census. Butler is an uncommon name. Marshall descendants claim George had a "brother" named Butler. Maybe he was really a cousin or half-brother. Any insight would be helpful.
