Just one slight problem with this.
Around Denchworth and Childrey (where the earliest references are found) in the main it is rather flat - being in the Vale of the White Horse which runs right through to Wiltshire. Going South it does get a little hillier, but the only references I can find are at Thatcham - which seems to be a connection with the Childrey. The Childrey family of Childery had land in Thatcham. Right thought most of Berkshire it is mainly open countryside, except for the Thames running through. You will note that the earliest references in London are around where the barges used to dock. In other words it would appear a few of the family have drifted into London on the grain barges going down the Thames.
