The change was marked in the parish registers of Denchworth, Berkshire, England. As the family were tenenat farmers, it would this change was "cosmetic" only, perhaps streamlined for ease of use by the vicar. It may also reflect a local common usage, which has subsequently been taken up officially (nickname).
