My grandmother was born as Christina Fritz, 6 May 1892 in or around Lindenhurst, LI, NY. Her biological mother, Dora Fritz, gave her up for adoption when she was 4 months old.
The wonderful people that adopted her were Lorenz Stipp and Sophie (Adam) Stipp of Lindenhurst, LI, NY. They were quite up in their years when they adopted my gandmother. I have a copy of the original adoption papers.
My father was 12 years old when his mother died 16 July 1943 (cancer of the sigmoid), and to this day, it is extremely painfull to talk about his memories of this marvelous woman I was never able to know as a grandmother! My dad was the second youngest of 4 boys; Bill, Calvin, Joseph (my dad), and Wesley.
Will someone please help me find out who my grandmother really was? I know my dad would really like to know also!
Until I started doing genealogy in the late 1970's, my dad heard "rumor" that his mother was adopted but never really knew for sure. It broke my heart to show him the "papers", and that was only 3 years ago!!
In August 1999, my dad will celebrate his 70th birthday (2 August) and I would love to give him the gift of knowing his real heritage.
Is there anyone out there who can help?
