Sheldon Sun - Dec 29, 1984 "SHELDON - Merrill H. Fritz, 78, of Sheldon died Thursday at the Sheldon Community Memorial Hospital. Services are today (Saturday) at 1:30 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lyonel Watkins officiating. Interment is in the East Lawn Cemetery under the direction of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home.
Mr. Fritz, son of William and Addie (Stamm) Fritz, was born June 30, 1906, in Sheldon. He married Irene Vos on Nov. 29, 1941 in Canton, S.D. He graduated from the Sheldon High School in 1925, and attended the Sheldon Junior College and Morningside College, Sioux City. He owned the Fritz Insurance Agency and Fritz and Murphy Real Estate Agency from 1964 to 1974. He was a member of the City Council from 1958 to 1961, and was the mayor of Sheldon from 1962-1964. For many years, he also served as the city zoning officer.
Mr. Fritz was a member of the Sheldon Mistletoe Lodge No. 376, and was a member of the AF & AM.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Norma (Mrs. Harlan) Kamerman of Sioux Center; two sons, Lee of Des Moines and Jack of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Myrna (Mrs. Laurel) Hedeen of Cedar Falls; and six grandchildren."
