More on the family of Robert Lee Fripp.
Based on letters by members of the Ellis family and an account by Nellie Hasell Fripp herself, the three children that Robert and Nellie rasied were adopted by them. They were siblings, although I don't know who there parents were.
Robert Lee Fripp died on Feb. 26, 1933 and Nellie Fripp on May 25, 1962 in Walterboro, Colleton Co., SC just 3 days short of her 71st. birthday. She is buried at the Evergreen Cem. in Beaufort SC.
The story of how Nellie came to live with Sidney and Rosa Benton, is one of post Civil War plantation hardships. Nellie's father Andrew George Hasell died in 1894, while she was only 3 years old. With two older boys to raise, Nellie's mother Sarah Isabell Ellis Hasell (sister of Rosa Benton) was to poor to raise another child, so Sidney and Rosa took her as their own.
In his 1908 will, Sidney referes to Nellis as his adopted daughter, but it's unlikley that an official adoption ever took place, since Sarah Isabell outlive both Sidney and Rosa.
