Mike,
I don't know if my husband's family fits in or not. He is a FrIIs born in Hamburg and his father's family has been mostly from the Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein area for the last four generations, but his 3 great grandfather, Georg (or Juergen) spelled his name FrIEs and was born in Denmark (and lived in Copenhagen) before moving to Muelheim an der Ruhr in Rheinland. We don't know the date of his birth but it must have been around 1805 (give or take 10 years). He married a Catharina Luise Schmitz in 1834 in Muelheim and later moved to the Hamburg area. Georg Hansen's father was a Hans Fries also from Denmark, but we know nothing more about him. I'm not sure if our Hans Fries could be your Johannes Fries. Let me know if you think there may be a link, especially if any of the wives' names have come up in your research. I am at a brick wall with our Danish Friis (Fries) ancestors. Thanks.
Barbara Friis
