J.B. Ayars Fries 96th Penn. Regiment d. 1864 [ article ]
Article taken from the 'Christian Advocate and Journal', dated July 28, 1864.
J.B. AYERS FRIES, son of Rev. George Fries and brother of the writer, died a martyr for the nation in Hampton Hospital, Va., May 29, from the effects of wounds received in a skirmish near Richmond. He was a veteran in the 97th Pennsylvania regiment, having served nearly 3 years and re-enlisted for the war.
In answer to the question, " What word have you to send to your father, " with a heavenly smile he promptly replied, " Tell father I died happy, trusting in God".
