Hi Becky, and thank you for checking. If what I see is correct Plainview is in Pierce County Nebraska. I only found one family there in the 1880 online census. But you probably already know this. If not I downloaded the info.
My wife's family settled in Gage County as far as I know, in Hallam (the town that got a facelift by a tornado a couple of years ago).
To my knowledge (ahem) there were no close family members in the state. I don't remember hearing my mother-in-law speak of any, but I'll verify this with my wife and her mother.
If we can find a connection maybe we could finally find a name in Germany that we could start on!
