Doris Elizabeth 'Betty' Frew

Doris Elizabeth "Betty" Frew, 84, a projects officer for the Farm Credit Administration when she retired in 1980 after a 42-year government career, died of cancer Feb. 27 at Layhill Center Nursing Facility in Silver Spring. She was the second daughter born Jan 11, 1918 to George Alexander Frew of Sherard, Illinois and Ellen Ada Schofield of Oldham, England.

Ms. Frew had lived in the Washington area since the 1930s and in Kensington since the early 1990s.

She was a native of Orion, Ill., and a graduate of the American Institute of Business.

She worked as an administrative assistant for the Social Security Board before joining the Farm Credit Administration in 1942. As a project officer, she helped to write the banking bylaws that determined farm credit. She received the agency's Governor's Award.

Ms. Frew was a member of the United Church in Washington.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Frew Miehm and Mary Jane Frew Baker and two brothers, George Alexander Frew and James Gordon Frew. Predeceased are sisters, Janet Ellen, Julia Edith, Margaret Anna and brother, William Douglas all born in Orion, Il.

Although never married, she leaves behind a mulitude of nieces, nephews and their families who loved her greatly.
