Thank you so much for writing! OK, here's the whole story-

My Smith line had lived in Gibson Co. from about 1835 up until my grandfather left for Iowa sometime between the 1910 and 1920 censuses. He married a Freudenberg, but she was from Iowa, not Gibson Co. I've traced those Freudenbergs back to Wisconsin and then to Germany and am satisfied that my research is accurate.

Thing is, he died before I could ask him anything about his history and nobody in my family can figure out why he would have left Owensville to go to an even smaller town in Iowa and get married. That is, until I found your Freudenbergs nearby in Gibson County.

My theory is that he met some of your Freudenbergs while living in Owensville, and they may have introduced him to my grandmother (Lenora), and that's why he moved out there.

I'd like to find out, first, if you've traced your Freudenbergs back to Germany and where, and second, if you had any ties to Sheffield, Iowa, or Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, and lastly, if anyone in your family or relatives still living might remember my granddad, O.B. (Oswald) Smith. He was born in 1895, Owensville.
I can send a list of my Freudenbergs if you want, but basically it went from my grandmother Lenora, her father Charles, then William was the emigrant.

Any help in solving this mystery would be most appreciated!
