Dear Alaina:
Thank you very much for your message. My cousin and I have
been working on this line for a number of years.
Mary and Charles had their last daughter in Castle Rock,
Douglas Co., Colorado from the information that we have obtained.
In the 1900 Census, Mary E. Fresh was in Del Norte,Rio
Grande Co., Colorado. She was a housekeeper to Richard D.
Adams.
So by then, her and Charles were separated, and probably
divorced.
Yes, Charles was in Idaho, and then moved to Oregon and died
there.
Please ask your grandfather if he knows the names of Charles
Fresh's parents? From a statement he made for a pension from the Civil War, his mother died when he was 2 yrs.old &
and his father when he was about 11 yrs. old.
The 1865 Kansas Census, stated that he was born at Darmstadt
Germany. That is a large town, so we haven't been able to locate any records for him or his family up to this time.
We don't know if Charles came to America by himself, or with other family, since his parents died in Germany.
My cousin checked Colorado, and was unable to find a death record for Mary, so we don't know where she went after 1900.
I will look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Dianne
