A biography of George D. French is included in "Progressive Men of the State of Montana". In 1852, New York City, George was married Elizabeth Hughes, a native of Bath, England. Of nine children, only three are living, two having drowned at Bannack, MT, 5 Jan 1866, by falling from a bridge on Beaverhead River. Surviving children: Margaret, b. 25 Dec 1855, NY (Mrs. Alfred E. Graeter, Argenta, MT); George W. French, b. 10 Feb 1859, at Palmyra, WI; Anthony, b. Bannack, MT, 1868.
George D. French died in 1879, in Argenta, Beaverhead County, MT. His wife, Elizabeth, died in 1900.
