John French, Brickmaker/mason, b: c1647-48, MA (?), of Woodbridge, NJ

Based on a letter written by a Benjamin French (a descendant of John) in the 1880's, to his nephew, John Wesley French, it has been mentioned that this line of Frenches are "Scotch-Irish". Does anyone have an idea where John the Brickmaker was born? Is he the probable immigrant?

The "Scotch-Irish", as you may know, were the mainly Lowland Scots who settled the nine Northern Ireland counties during James I's Plantation scheme beginning in 1611. If John the Brickmaker, or his father (whoever he was) were "Scotch-Irish", they would have been VERY,VERY early Ulster-Scots immigrants to America, as the general movement from Ulster to America didn't begin until the first of five major waves in 1715. Of course, there were "Scotch-Irish", I'm sure, coming sporadically all the time.

Anyone have any more info on John and his origins? Thanks.
