My French line came through John French (b. c 1750) who married Catherine Vogwell and lived at Rowbrook, Devon. I visted the area 2 years ago and fell in love with the moors. We purchased a copy of Philip's Street Atlas Devon, which proved to be priceless as we drove around the country side looking for the small farms where my ancestors had lived.

After returning home, I purchased a set of the Widecombe church records on microfiche. I wish I had known they were available for purchase while viewing them in Exeter. If you think you might want a copy, its best to make arrangements for a purchase while you are there. The quality of the first few sheets of records is quite poor and will drive you crazy. Finding a good microfiche reader once you are home can be another issue.

If you have a time share and belong to RCI there is a lovely place at the edge of the Dartmoor - Manor Court Club @ Mortonhampstead. We found it to be a convenient location for our day trips.
