After re-reading numerous posts on rootsweb and other links, regarding John French and his place of birth & marriage to Grace Kingsley, I decided to tell you what my dad & his siblings say as to place of birth.
As children, and to present day, we were told that John French, my 7th Great-grandfather, was a deserter from the Irish army, made his way to England, made passage in 1630 to Boston, and is in now way English. Supposedly, he is from County Wexford, Ireland.
I'm hoping to locate some old Irish army records that might back up that theory. My relatives are very adament about being Irish, not English.
Also, my 7th G-grandfather John was not married to Grace Kingsley. According to: http://hdhdata.org/roots/d2517.shtml Freedom Kingsley m Abt 1654 MA John FRENCH b 26May1622 Assington ENGL. Grace Kingsley was born somewhere around 1636-1640 and therefore cannot be the same Grace that was married to my 7th Great-grandfather.
Grace (Nee?) French was delivering babies beginning in 1641.
Hope this straightens out that Grace Kingsley could not have been married to John French of Braintree while Grace (Nee?) was married to him!
