William (m. Anne, had John) & a bridge in England

I have a William French, whose brothers were Isaac and George. He married an Ann Britton. They had John French (born in 1841 in Kingswood HIll, Oldland, England), Mary, and Martha, and I believe they came from a fairly well to do family. My great-grandmother wrote that William French had charge of buliding the largest bridge from Wales to England, but while he was working on this he was killed (c. 1849). I have no idea what bridge this could be. For those I mentioned prior to John, I only know names and no dates. Does anyone know more? Thanks!
